This and That

I am pulling out my sewing stuff...dusting off my machines and looking forward to a great day of sewing at the Fiber Arts College FiberCollege Home.  I'll let you know how it goes:)

And last night was Lauren's First Day Of School supper choice...I made a coffe cake that was delicious...BUT it fell apart when I took it out of the pan...it was heart shaped:)

Last night we had our first Drama club meeting of the year at the highschool.  We are going to do Godspell and I feel so lucky that Lauren will be joing me in this again.  We are trying to "convince" nate that he should be a part of it too...

Tonight is the first night of Ballet classes for Lauren!

TRYING to get back in the swing of things...

I know I have been missing again dear blog friends...but honest...I have been thinking about you constantly.  First off...Friday night we celebrated my Aunt Dorraine's birthday.  I made a vanilla layer cake with raspberry SAUCE.  Now I emphasis sauce because they all laughed at my cake...Karen said it looked like Peptobismol;)  BUT it was very YUMMY and that's what counted...

It was also my sister Cheryl's birthday...Happy Birthday old lady (I can say that cuz she will always be older than me:)

This weekend has been a tough weekend, but one full of wonderful memories. Ever since we were young mom and dad would take us to the Blue Hill fair.  It signified the end of summer and the start of school...very bittersweet.  In the past years it has been a tradition for all of us to go and for Dad and Bobo to treat us to the fair.  We would go on Sunday at NOON SHARP...very seldom have we veered from that schedule.  One year Dad's back was bothering him...one year Bobo got sick...some years one of my brothers or sisters couldn't make it...and several years Scott would be working...but we got there.  My Dad had a system...a schedule...he new how to eat his way around the fair and then it was time for him and Bobo to leave.  My family would always stay longer...sometimes meeting up with Cheryl or one of the others to do some rides, or the petting zoo.  This tradition has signified to MY KIDS that summer is done and school starts.  My mom used to let us where one of our new school outfits to the fair...I have always let my kids too.  Last year we didn't make it to the fair (nate did go with his pal Cody)...but by that time Dad was so sick and we just didn't have it in us to carry on.  This year...it wasn't in my heart to go...but we had decided we would try it to carry on Dad's memory...and to help the kids through this tough transition of losing certain traditions.  Alas...it was not in the stars for us to go...Friday (school and ...and Lauren worked), Saturday (football game), Sunday (lauren worked and I did), Monday (Football game and lauren works) and through it all Scott worked every day.  Nate did get to go Sunday with Cody and his family...and he brought home a bag of cotton candy for me and one for Lauren.  He told me this morning he had a plan at the fair...he was going to eat five slices of pizza, one dough boy and french fries.  he isn't into the rides.  I said it sounded as if he was carrying on Buppie's tradition of eating his way around the fair. Nate said "yeah, I guess I am.  But I couldn't eat as much as I had planned".  Sometimes change is good...but lot's of times it is just plain sad.  This change of not going to the Blue Hill fair is just plain sad.  So I hope you don't mind indulging me in some past fair pictures...fall 2005:

Hey  now here is a cool thing...While I was looking at these pictures I found some pictures that I thought had been lost forever.  they were pictures of Lauren, Me, Jenny and Toni in Boston a few years back...I thought I had lost them with my hard drive...but evidently I had them on a disc!  Yahoo...

I have hundreds of Blue Hill fair pictures...none of when i was a kid...but lots since I had kids.  Thanks for letting me share a few of my favorites with you all...it is good therapy!

Nate came home from school today and requested a chocolate cake with mocha frosting and I said SURE!  Now he was rather shocked and said "You must be bored...cuz you usually wouldn't just start making a cake".  I told him I wasn't bored...but that the kitchen was all clean and my "work" was done so I could do it.  I can not tell you how absolutely freeing it is to have a clean house. In the past I wouldn't have made a cake cuz I wouldn't have had a kitchen counter cleared off to do it, but today I did! It isn't perfect, but I wouldn't be embarrassed if someone just dropped in.  EXCEPT for the musty wet smell we are now experiencing due to the darn wash machine break   ICK.

The wash machine is broken, beyond repair, there is a crack in the drum.  Scott took it out today and we will have to figure out how to get another one, it is definitely not in our budget plan at this point.

I posted the winner of the purse a few days ago...and still have not heard from the winner.  My feeling on this is that if you comment to win something than you should check back to see if you won.  I did email new commenter's to remind them to check the winning post, but the winner still hasn't checked in.  I am going to give it until SATURDAY JUNE 13 and if I haven't heard still than I will do another random number drawing.  So stay tuned until then and check back Sunday for a new winner if I haven't heard.  Here is the link to the post winner:A Day In My Life: And The Winner Is:

The Last Cake Standing

I have found a new "reality show"...I watched it last night and loved it!  Unfortune, I got sick right at the very end and MISSED who was voted out:(  I can't find it anywhere on the internet.  Now the woman who won...oh first let me TELL you about the show.  It is a cake making show...here is a picture of one of the contestants cakes (and this wasn't even the winner last night):

This entire dress form is cake...except for the post...but even the stand is CAKE!  I thought it was pretty amazing...and it was one of my favorites, but the judges thought maybe it was a little to "simple"???

This cake was pretty darn amazing too...and it didn't win either!

Anyway...six contestants...one winner each night and one gets voted off.  If you missed it and want to see it I THINK it is on again Wednesday night...on the Food Network.

On the sick news...I STILL don't feel that great.  My cold is pretty much gone except for the nose stuff...but my stomach is rebelling against almost all foods.  Today I spent the day taking care of stuff that is in those boxes in the dining room.

Plus, while waiting for Nate to get done track (first day!)...I read this:

 

and ofcourse it got my brain thinking about my ARTstudio...as well as the rest of my house...and so now I am going to search for a few things...ready for my list???  If you know of where I might find some of these...PLEASE let me know:)

I also realized that I THINK I want to bring the Sunflower Hand print in from the Garage and hang it in the kitchen.  It is HUGE and was in our last kitchen...it is three sunflowers each one made from handprints of Nate, Lauren and my niece Liz (she was staying with us at the time).

Okee dokee...those magazines are dangerous!  At least it got my brain going.

Tonight I have been working on coupons...but I am giving up for the night and am going to go rest.

Carrot Cake...

My Aunt Dorraine makes a MEAN carrot cake!  She made it and brought it tonight to our scrapbook time, for my birthday!  It was good till the last crumb!  We ate the entire thing...thanks Aunt Dorraine!

Let's see how has turning 46 been?

*My eyesight...which was good up until two years ago...seems to be getting worse!

*My kids say I have hearing problems (anyone with teenagers know that is a "fake"

*Scott and I realized that we have spent EXACTLY half of our lives together (23 years for those who aren't good at new math)

*My cholesterol is too high

*I am more in charge of who I am and who I want to be then I have ever been

*I am officially closer to 50 than I am to 40

So, on the cholesterol front.  I saw the Dr today..he said I have two choices.  One is to try diet and exercise and Omega-3, Flax seed, etc and he feels with making some significant changes I can lower my cholesterol by 23%, which would bring it under 200.  Or I can do all that and take medicine.  He said, although I am in the LOW range of High cholesterol and he wouldn't necessarily consider medicine at this point, given my family history and the concern of my brother's recent stroke he wouldn't be opposed to using medicine also.

I don't know what to do, I wish he would have just said THIS is what you must do, but alas...  My choice today was to go with diet and exercise and to meet with the nutritionist/heart disease specialist lady on March 9.  On April 9 I will see him again and they will do another fasting test just to see where we are at.  He feels it might be a little to soon to test again, but given the fact that I haven't had any blood test in 8 years, he felt it wouldn't hurt.

He also decided to do a thyroid and iron test today.  I told him I was very tired all the time and he said that could very well change with diet and exercise changes, but it was best to rule out other things while we were at it.  So, there you have it...I picked up fish oil and flax seed supplements today...now if I can just figure out this diet and exercise stuff...

As for now, I am going to go RELAX!

Really her birthday is Monday...but we celebrate when we can:)

The cake was delicious...but as you can see, got rather messy.  The frosting was butter, confect. sugar,cherries and cherry juice...and it got a little MELTY...but I think it was Yummy.  The cake was delicious...it had sour cream in it, and almost tasted like fudge.  I added cherries and cherry juice to the cake also...so i sort of made up my own recipe.

Okay, so two post in one day...

I forgot to tell you that Wednesday night my children wore their pajama pants wrong side out...as that is luck for a snow day.  They were disappointed when they woke up and discovered it didn't work.

I worked on a project tonight at our scrapbooking time...and I think I am gonna love it.  I will try to show you some pictures of it this weekend as I work on it.  Plus if Judy let's me I want to share some pictures of her version on here...and Maybe Connie too? 

I am beat...mice tap dancing in the wall by my head last night kept me awake until 2:30am.  Scott can't understand why it bothers me since they can't get me...grrrrrrrrrrr.
