ONE LITTLE WORD GIVEAWAY TO BE INTRODUCED MONDAY HERE: A Day In My Life: One Little Word GiveawayAND AT www.dancinglydenise.typepad.com/mepursenalities don't forget to check it out!
ah, I know I am not the first to make one of these and that they have been around for awhile. But I made another one last night and thought I would share the process. First, here are the ones I made at Christmas AND i want to thank Aimee Lozier for telling me HOW to make these! Not sure if she reads my blog, but if you do THANK-YOU!
This is the one I made for myself...I love the OWL craze right now:
and now the making of it...In this tutorial I am going to make the pictures smaller because there are so many of them...BUT if you click on them they will GROW:)
First you need the materials...the ones in the above pictures I made using two pieces of fleece each 2 yards in size...the one I am showing you today is for a 2 year old and so i used a 1 1/2 yards of each fleece:
you also need a sharp pair of scissors, a tape measure and a square of cardboard that is cut 4"x4"
First you cut the selvage off from both pieces of fleece:
Then you lay one on top of the other WRONG sides together (there will be no turning this once it is done). You will see that they might not be quite even in size so you need to trim them up:
Next you will take the cardboard square, lay it over both pieces and in each corner cut out a 4 inch square of fabric:
Next you will start cutting the fringe. It is 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. Cut through BOTH layers of fabric. I lay a measuring tape down to help with the measuring and cutting. But I will say it does not have to be PERFECT!
You will cut like this around all four sides of the blanket:
Once you have cut the fringe on all four sides you simply start tying the bottom fabric to the top fabric. I tied a knot and then tied another in each pair of fringe:
Even though you probably don't have to do this I tied one whole side and than tied the opposite side of the blanket instead of working my way around the blanket. It just seemed to make sense to do it that way. And then you have this soft, warm cuddly blankie:
Now, I have never done a tutorial before...so if this isn't clear or you have questions let me know. One of the biggest questions I have been asked about them so far is do I make them to sell. So far I have only made and sold one as a special order, but would I? Yes. I can do special order school colors (lap blankets are great for those cold Fall sports you Have to sit at!), special character or Sports team ones are pricier because the fleece is pricey but I can do those, or just simple prints and colors.
Are they hard to make? NO, but the cutting is slightly BACK BREAKING:) so just be prepared!
Thanks for looking AND don't forget the One Little Word Giveaway will be posted at the top of this blog page on MONDAY! and over at www.dancinglydenise.typepad.com/mepursenalities
Enjoy the weekend!
Dancingly, Denise
